Every guess is compared with today's player attribute by attribute. Green means exact, amber means close, and the arrow says whether the answer is higher or lower than your guess.
How does the player of the day work?
Everyone plays the same player today, and it changes at midnight UTC. You have eight guesses, and every guess is compared attribute by attribute: position, country, the decade they turned professional, the club where they started and the club they are most associated with.
Nothing about the answer is in the page. Each guess is checked on the server.
Why is there no height or preferred foot?
Because we could not stand behind hundreds of heights to the centimetre, or behind the foot of every player who is famous but not that famous. The rule for this whole category is that a column only exists if every cell in it can be defended.
The two club columns replaced them, and they earn their place: the distance between where a player started and where they are remembered tells a story on its own.
Why the decade and not the exact debut year?
Because the exact year of a first professional appearance disagrees between sources for older players, and a decade does not. The band is ten years, so a guess one decade away still shows as close.
Why are there no photos?
A player's image rights belong to somebody else, and this is a commercial site. The same line that keeps club badges out keeps photos out. The game is text, and text works the same in every language.
Does sharing my result spoil the player?
No. The shared square carries only the colours of each guess, never the names you tried and never the arrows, because an arrow tells the reader whether the answer is above or below your guess.
