Take the penalty
Today's five kicks
Pick a corner, then click again to stop the power bar. The keeper already knows where he is diving today, and he leans to one side - his last dives stay on the screen. Too much power and the ball goes over.
Is this a probability simulator?
No, and it is built so it cannot be. Nothing is rolled at the moment you shoot: where the keeper dives was decided by today's seed before the round started, and what decides the goal is the corner you picked plus the power at the instant you clicked.
That is the whole difference. The keeper leans to one side, and his previous dives stay on the screen, so a player who pays attention scores more. A probability simulator would give the same average to someone who pays attention and someone who does not.
How does the power bar work?
A hard shot beats the keeper's hand even when he guesses your corner, but past a point the ball goes over the bar. That red stretch at the end is the only thing that punishes power; without it, always shooting at maximum would be right and the bar would be decoration.
Is this the same as the penalty shootout tool?
No. The tool is a table that says when a shootout is already mathematically decided. This is taking the kicks yourself. They answer different questions and do not compete.
Is the round the same for everyone?
Yes. The keeper's five dives come from a seed made out of today's date, and the seed comes from the server, so everybody faces the same keeper today and the score means the same thing.
Is there a leaderboard?
Not in this first version. Your best is kept in your own browser. If a board is ever added, it can be checked by replaying the round: the seed plus your list of corners and power values is enough for the server to reach the same result.
