Introduction
The SemFirula team has put together some interesting facts about the 10 greatest goalkeepers in the history of football. Scoring a goal as a goalkeeper is an extraordinary feat, especially nowadays. However, these stars have achieved this feat more than once - in fact, several times, making history as the greatest goal scorers in their position!
1st - Rogério Ceni - Brazil – 131 goals - 129 official goals recognized by the IFFHS

Rogério Ceni started out like many goalkeepers: revered for his miraculous saves, but he never imagined that his name would become synonymous with goals. In the 1997 Paulistão, on a February afternoon, his first goal came, a free kick against União São Paulo.
That shot didn't happen by chance: it took hours and hours of training, more than fifteen thousand repetitions until he felt confident enough to risk it in an official game. From then on, Ceni not only defended, but also started to dictate the pace of São Paulo.
Over the course of almost two decades wearing the tricolor jersey, he scored 129 official goals (IFFHS does not count 2 goals in friendlies) in 1,237 matches, distributed among 69 penalties, 59 direct free kicks and even a goal from a rolling ball – an extremely rare feat for someone who plays in the back line. In 2011, Ceni scored his 100th goal, remaining the only goalkeeper to do so to this day. It was against Corinthians, from a free kick, at the Barueri arena. The 100th goal earned him the title of “M1TO of 100 goals” with celebration, fireworks and applause that echoed for weeks.
He proved that a goalkeeper can be an offensive weapon, an idol for fans and a reference for those who dare to dream beyond the goalposts. Rogério Ceni didn't just defend the goal; he redefined the entire game. To this day, he is considered not only one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but also one of the best footballers of all time.

2nd – José Luis Chilavert – Paraguay – 67 goals

A specialist in penalties and free kicks, Chilavert still holds the record for goals scored by a goalkeeper for a national team (8 - Paraguay) and was the first to score a hat-trick as a goalkeeper.
3rd - Jorge Campos - Mexico – 46 goals

Despite being a record holder, most of his goals came when he played as a striker. He alternated between goalkeeper and striker in the matches during his first stint at “Pumas”. And because of this, he holds the record for the goalkeeper with the most goals with the ball rolling - 43.
He is also known for being very short for a goalkeeper - 1.70m, and wearing very extravagant shirts, which made him relatively famous in pop culture.
4th - Johnny Vegas Fernández - Peru – 45 goals

5th - Márcio - Brazil – 43 goals

Most of his goals were scored while playing for Atlético Goianiense. At that time, he was competing with Rogério Ceni for the title of “Goalkeeper with the Most Scored Goals”, and he even scored goals against Rogério, as well as conceding goals from him. To this day, he is the Brazilian who has come closest to Ceni’s historic feat.
6th - René Higuita - Colombia – 41 goals

Still known today for his famous “Scorpion Defense”, Higuita is one of the most remarkable personalities in world football, for being an extremely crazy person on the field. In any case, his legendary performance as a goalkeeper who took penalties and free kicks, even though it was relatively brief (for a goalkeeper), earned him a place in the historical ranking of the greatest scorers in the position.
10th - Fernando Patterson - Costa Rica – 26 goals

Having his roots in the striker position, at the beginning of his career, Fernando alternated between the goalkeeper and striker positions in the first clubs he played for. However, the overwhelming majority of his goals were scored with the Xelajú jersey, from Guatemala, playing as a goalkeeper.
